Testosterone Replacement

Posted by aelling

On March 31, 2005, I started using Androgel to supplement my testosterone levels. Over the past few months I had noticed a few symptoms that, perhaps, I was low on testosterone. My hair was thinner than normal as was my underarm, pubic, and facial hair. My libido was also lower than normal and I was sweating more profusely during the day than I ever had in the past ,indicating that I was having hot flashes. In addition,my back was always achy and I seemed to be constantly tired.

After explaining my symptoms to my oncologist he ordered a blood draw to test my total and free testosterone. My blood tests came back showing that I was low on testosterone. I was still within the 'normal range' but I was at the very bottom of the normal range, a level that I was more likely to have when I was 75-80 years of age rather than at age 26. So now every morning after I shower I rub on 5 grams of Androgel on my shoulder/ chest and let it dry. So far so good, I feel like I have more energy, do not sweat as much, my back is less achy and I have increased sex drive. If I notice any side affects I'll post my thoughts here at a later.

** Update 5/16/05

After being on testosterone for two months I definitely feel better physically when using the Androgel. All my symptoms have lessened or gone completely away. I have not noticed any negative side effects so far. I did have to lessen my dosage from 5 grams to 2.5 grams because on my monthly blood work I was above the normal range for free testosterone.
