Testicular Cancer Staging

After what seemed to be an eternity, March 30 came and I was able to meet with Dr. Williams. We met in his office and he laid it right out on the table for me. According to my blood markers cancer was still present in my body because my markers were continuing to rise even though the main tumor had been removed.

Dr. Williams said that this meant that an RPLND was out of the question because the cancer may have moved beyond the lymph nodes and chemotherapy was the route I should be taking. When looking at my CT scans he did not see any metastasizes in my lymph nodes or lungs but there was one lymph node in question that they were going to have a second opinion on, but neither my Dr. McGregor in Mason City or Dr. Williams thought it was another metastases. We made the decision that I would like to have the chemotherapy closer to home, so my cancer treatment was scheduled for the Mercy Cancer Center to begin on Monday April 9, one month to the day that I went to the emergency room with testicular pain. Dr. Williams said he would put my staging at Non-Seminoma Stage II, however, my tumor markers were very low and the prognosis was very good that I would make a full recovery. Now before I started chemotherapy, I needed to think about my future and my possible future family, it was time to look at sperm banking.
