LiveStrong (LAF) Grant Reviewer

I just received word that I was selected to be one of the grant reviewers for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This is such an honor and an opportunity to give back and hopefully make a difference for future cancer survivors. Here is the press release that went out in the local papers.

LIVESTRONG RESEARCH GRANT REVIEWER ANNOUNCED

Austin, TX , July 8, 2005, Austin Elling has been selected as a reviewer of LiveSTRONG Survivorship Research Grants for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. In early August, he will review grant proposals that directly relate to cancer survivorship or the basic and clinical science of testicular cancer, the leading cause of cancer morbidity and mortality for young men. At home, this work will continue into September.

Elling recently was found free of the testicular cancer he began battling in 2004. He is an honorary co-chairperson for the Franklin County Relay for Life held in Sheffield this weekend, July 22 and 23,

"This is a great opportunity to get involved with an organization that gave me hope in my own battle with cancer," Elling says, " and I'm hoping to give promise to others fighting the disease."

Elling embraces the LAF's belief that, in the battle with cancer, unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. From the moment of diagnosis, the LAF provided him with practical information and tools to live strong. It serves its mission through public health, advocacy, research and education, including the LIVESTRONG(tm) Resource for Cancer Survivors. The LAF will cover the cost of Elling's trip and accommodations. He will also be given a $500 honorarium for his contribution to the review process.

The LAF was founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong and is located in Austin, Texas. For more information, visit www.livestrong.org.
