On August 9 I was called by the Lance Armstrong Foundation to see if I would be willing to go to the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames and help promote the LivesStrong Presidential Cancer Forums to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I enjoy cancer patient advocacy so my wife and I agreed to help get the LiveStrong bus get setup for a day of promotion at the republican event. The LiveStrong is actually an converted school bus that Lance Armstrong converted for the annual bike ride across Iowa called RAGBRAI that he uses to promote the LAF and spread the cancer advocacy mission.
Karla Mae and I could only spend a few hours at the event as we had other obligations but the event was a success as we got to meet and lot of great people and spread the word about the Lance Armstrong Foundation. We promoted the presidential cancer forum, encouraged people to sign up for the "LAF Army" and handed out LiveStrong bracelets, but most of all we talked to people and heard their stories about how cancer has impacted them and how we need to find a cure for all the diseases that make up cancer. Below are few pictures of me sitting outside the LiveStrong bus.
